Despite Jat leaders calling off their proposed march to the national Capital on Monday, city police has been put on high alert as the police top brass is in no mood to take any chances since students will be appearing in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination on Monday at various centers.
The police will maintain the security arrangements in and around the city and force will remain deployed to prevent any untoward incidents in and around the city, a senior police official said. “We have also taken cognizance of clash in Fatehabad area of the State where four police personnel were injured. The decision to maintain the level of preparedness has been taken to ensure anti-social elements who may indulge in violence masquerading as protestors”, the official added.
Earlier, security was tightened across Gurugram on Sunday ahead of the proposed Jat quota stir from Monday. Over 2,000 police personnel and two companies of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been deployed in the district at sensitive places to keep the situation under control.
Jat leader Yashpal Malik had a meeting with Chef Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Sunday following which the Jat agitation was called off for the next fifteen days.
“We have deployed around 2,000 police personnel and are maintaining a high level of vigil at all border crossings. We will take no chances and will maintain all security arrangements,” Gurugram policeman Manish Sehgal said.
The district administration has also imposed section 144 and banned the gathering of more than five people in the district.
The orders were issued by Gurugram Deputy Commissioner, Hardeep Singh, for two months under which all unlawful activities, blocking of roads, passages, railway tracks, water channel, powerhouses, etc by agitators have been prohibited.
The Deputy Commissioner also ordered to the petrol pumps owners that they should not provide petrol and diesel in bulk to tractors, tent shop owners should not provide tents for agitators and bamboo shop owners should not provide their goods to agitators without the prior approval of concerned sub-divisional magistrate or district magistrate. Carrying of any weapon like firearms, sword, lathi, kulhari, knives and other weapons has also been prohibited.
The city police is on high alert to ensure the security of all major critical points like the Delhi-Gurugram border, Gurugram-Jhajjar border and the Gurugram-Mewat border. Also, traffic movement on the NH-8 (National Highway), roadways depots and railway station will be under the tight vigil of the city police, a Gurugram Police official said.
