The recent gang-rape of two women has alerted Millennium City again to increasing sexual offences, especially at work places and while commuting.
The Gurgaon administration on Sunday directed all industries — including call centres and MNCs — to prepare a report of all transporters, security agencies, drivers and security guards providing services to them. "It has been noticed that the employees working in such organisations round-the-clock hire cabs on a contract basis. At times, in the absence of cabs, women have to wait for public transport even at night. There is no proper monitoring of cab operators as well as their drivers for ensuring safe and secure transportation," said PC Meena, District Magistrate of Gurgaon.
Officials said criminals and anti-social elements look for soft targets, particularly during odd hours and women employees who travel late in the night, are vulnerable if not dropped securely and safely at their residence.Meena has also directed Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal to conduct special night patrolling at all vulnerable places by a special team headed by an ACP.
"We have ordered the management of these organisations to hire security personnel and other contractual personnel as far as possible from licensed agencies only," he added. The directions make it binding upon these organisations to ensure that women employees are not made to travel alone with the cab driver. A duly verified security guard must be deployed in each cab carrying women staff during night hours.
They have also been directed to choose the route in such manner that as far as possible, a woman is not the first one to be picked up or the last to be dropped."Ensure that during night hours, cab involved in transportation of women employees picks up and drops them right at their doorstep, remains halted at the point till she confirms about her reaching through a telephone call. Exercise effective check and control on the vehicle's movement in order to check any unwarranted activities of the cab drivers, such as picking up strangers, straying away from the designated route. Get GPS system installed in the cabs used in the transportation of employees," Meena added.
