Northeast district police arrested arms supplier Salim Ahmad (47), and his two associates — Naseem Ahmad (30) and Mohammad Faizan (22). The police recovered 26 sophisticated semi-automatic 0.30 MM pistols, 1 star pistol, 19 extra magazines and 800 cartridges of different bores to be used in different weapons, from the possession of the arms supplier Salim. A raid was conducted after an informer informed inspector Vinay Yadav and HC Anil about a black Fortuner car entering Delhi from the Sanauli border area. The three persons were then apprehended.
DCP (Northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur in the press conference stated that Salim Ahmad is the prime accused in this investigation. Salim has previously been involved in 8 criminal cases including theft, armed robbery, causing grievous injuries and a murder case. An F.I.R under Section 25 Arms act has been filed at New Usmanpur police station. The involvement of the other two persons is still being investigated.
The DCP told the media, that the Police were informed about the arms and ammunition supply through an informer one and a half to two months, prior to the occurrence of the incident.
The DCP further revealed that during primary interrogation, the accused claimed he bought the arms and ammunition worth Rs 10 lakh from an individual in Nepal. He had plans to sell each weapon for 75,000 to 1 lakh rupees. Salim claimed to have received the contact of the person in Nepal through two individuals during his term in Jail. The interrogation also revealed that the accused has been in the arms supply business for the past 7 to 8 years. The accused told the police that he had bought weapons from Nepal two or three times before.
The police are still investigating the identity of the individual in Nepal, and the two persons in jail. The police stated that Salim was supplying weapons to local criminals in the Delhi NCR. The police also recovered 1 lakh in cash and a Fortuner car in which the arms and ammunition were being transported. The arms and ammunition were hidden in bags inside the car.
