Gujjars stage 'revolution' against Centre

Unhappy with the unfulfilled promises, the All India Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti has called a mahapanchayat of all Gujjar leaders belonging to Hindu, Muslim and Sikh religions to demand a special status for their community and incorporate it under 9th Schedule of the Constitution, on May 31 at Jantar Mantar.

“The BJP Government in its manifesto promised to give us a special status and made promises such as providing special backward class reservation and allocating extra budget but nothing has been done to implement it so far,” said Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, president All India Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, in a Press conference on Tuesday.

The demand to grant communities like Gujjar, Raika, Rebari, Banjara, labana, Baladia, Gadialuhar and Gadolia ‘special status’ and giving 5 per cent reservation to them in Government jobs in Rajasthan under this category is their immediate demand. “The condition of Gujjars in Rajasthan is worse, they are socially, politically and sexually exploited, their condition needs to be probed at,” said Bidhuri.

On being asked, what would be their action plan if the Government does not take into account their matter, he told The Pioneer, “it would be calling out for a full-fledged ‘revolution’ against Government. We expect Government to take immediate action to safeguard our community”.
