In order to improve the public transport service connecting city’s busy road to internal areas, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Authority has approved the much-awaited e-rickshaw facility in the twin cities Noida and Greater Noida which is likely to start next month. The Authority plans to issue 350 e-rickshaw permits soon that will ply on city’s internal roads in order to provide last mile connectivity to daily commuters.

Besides Gautam Budh Nagar district, the Authority has also decided to launch e-rickshaw service in Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Bulandshara.

The department is granting permits only to e-rickshaw models designed by a few manufacturing companies approved by the State Government. UP Government has asked Noida transport officials to submit details of the project, including number of routes defined in Noida, the number of e-rickshaws with its colour code on each routes.

Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Mayank Jyoti said that the e-rickshaw services would be expected to start in the second week of December. “The State transport authority has ordered regional authority to immediate start the facility. After we get the details of the project from the Noida transport department, RTO office will issue permits for e-rickshaws,” Jyoti said.

Assistant Regional Transport officer (ARTO) Noida, Rajesh Singh said, “A total of 12 routes had been identified in the twin cities Noida and Grater Noida after a detailed survey earlier. The administration had then agreed to ply 250 e-rickshaws in Noida and 100 in Greater Noida with colour coding to enforce them properly on their respective routes.” RTO said.

Assistant Regional Transport officer (ARTO) Noida, Rajesh Singh said they will submit the report by November 30.
