With the approval of UP Cabinet to set up a medical university-cum-hospital in Greater Noida on Saturday, the Greater Noida Authority has announced to start the university from April this year.
The authority has said that the academic session of the university will be started from the current session and temporarily it will be run from Gautam Buddh University. The proposed university will come up in Kasna area at a cost of Rs 760 crore.
According to authority officials, they have decided to convert existing hospital into university with world-class facilities and initially Rs 152 crore has also been released for this. All medical colleges of Western Uttar Pradesh will be part of the proposed university. Initially, MBBS, MS, MD and some other courses will be introduced and other related courses will be introduced after constructing the building of the university. last year the UP Government had started OPD services in the hospital of the proposed medical university and at present there are 24 doctors working, while on average 500 patients visit the OPD services daily. The university building is being constructed on lines of green building facility with high capacity solar system to meet electricity demand.
“As the UP Government has approved the ambitious project last week, there is no hurdle in starting the university from this academic year. As the construction work is in progress we have planned to run the university from GBU. For the hospital purpose, construction of OT, ICU, ICCU, emergency ward, blood bank and patients’ ward is complete. The hospital will have 500 beds for patients and will be a unique kind of hospital in the entire State,” said an official of Greater Noida Authority.
The UP Government had last year announced to turn the region into a medical hub and in September month the Industrial Development Commissioner of UP State had hinted at converting the medical hospital into a medical varsity with a minimum strength of 700 medical students.
