Greater Noida to get its own convention centre

Following its decision to set up a mega Convention Centre in Greater Noida city, the Greater Noida Authority has decided to approach Central Government for sharing the cost of the project. The decision was taken after finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the undertaking. Authority officials said that the entire cost of the project will be around Rs 1,500 crore.

The facility will be located in Knowledge Park-II area, which is also the education hub of the city. The land for the project has been earmarked. The facility is expected to be the first fully integrated convention, exhibition and entertainment centre in the district. According to a senior official of Greater Noida Authority, they have planned to construct a world class convention centre on the lines of India Habitat Centre (IHC). “We plan to approach the Centre for funds. We will make a provision of equal partnership as we have earlier done for the India Expo Mart,” said Harish Verma, Additional CEO, Greater Noida Authority.

“The Knowledge Park area has 87 educational institutes and the students have no facility to hold their conventions and seminars. The proposed facility will allow Greater Noida to tackle the convention market head on, providing capacity and flexibility for mega conferences and a range of other major events especially for students, said Verma. Greater Noida Authority had announced plans to construct a convention centre on a 25-acre land in Knowledge Park-II last year. The authority had announced that the convention centre would house an auditorium, library, amphitheatres, halls for exhibitions and seminars as well as a well-stocked library. A food plaza too would be a part of the centre, its 200 outlets dishing up international cuisines.
