Grandma's wishes to meet newborn cut in the prime

Eager to meet a newborn girl in their family, 65-year-old Murti Devi, one of the victims in the Ring Road accident, had no inkling that it would be her last journey.

Tripti, Murti’s niece, a second year Mechanical Engineering student at a private college in Gurgaon insisted on dropping her grand-aunt in their Honda Amaze car while she was heading for her classes. Murti lived with her 73-year-old husband Jai Prakash Garg and three sons. Tripti came a night before and had decided to pick her class fellow from Punjabi Bagh area. Happily leaving their Azadpur residence, their folks had no idea that one of them would come to  home in a stretcher while another would struggle for life at a city hospital.

“My mother was going to meet our distant relative’s newborn girl in Gurgaon. Since Tripti too had to go to her college, she drove my mother. Within a few hours, we got a call that my mother and Tripti are critically injured at the Ring Road,” Murti’s son Jai Prakash told The Pioneer.

Police said Murti succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. Her post-mortem was conducted at the Deen

Dayal Upadhayay hospital mortuary and last rites done by her family. Murti is survived by three sons and three daughters and husband, who owns a private business. While all her children are well settled, it was this recent celebration in the family which had made Murti all happy.
