Govt's dilemma: How to control breeding of Aedes mosquitoes

Published on:

As the dengue situation appears to get out of control, the AAP Government has asked the Urban Development (UD) Department to explore whether MlA local area development (lAD) fund could be provided to the MlAs to buy fogging machines. The Government thinks that MlAs can use the same for sanitising their constituencies, according to sources.

Through this exercise, the AAP Government is trying to settle score over the BJP, said sources. The BJP-ruled MCD has over 400 fogging machines but the AAP Government wants to prove that three MCDs have not carried out fogging exercise effectively and that’s why the Government is keen to authorise MlAs to intensify anti-mosquito measures in each constituency, added sources.

Top sources told The Pioneer that Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has sought suggestions from the UD Department whether MlA lAD fund could be provided to MlAs to buy fogging machines. The UD Department will look into the possibilities and give a formal suggestion to the Government. The fogging machine could be distributed through SDMs in each area.

“Now everyone is targeting the State Government. That’s why the Government is planning to provide fogging machines to each MlA and also authorise them to ensure effective fogging each year to control dengue,” said sources.

It will be easy for Deputy Chief Minister to direct deputy commissioners to ensure MlA fund spending on fogging as all deputy commissioners are Delhi Urban Development Authority (DUDA) officers.
