The Delhi Government’s decision to stop funding of 28 colleges of Delhi University is unfortunate and will jeopardise the future of 50,000 students, said Vijender Gupta, leader of Opposition (loP) on Monday.
"The Delhi Government as opposed to its promise of opening 20 new colleges has brought 28 DU colleges to the brink of closure. Out of these, 16 colleges received 95% grant from University Grants Commission and only 5% from Delhi Government." added Gupta.
Gupta held Delhi Government responsible for non formation of Governing Bodies because it has sent names which do not fulfill the laid down norms of the DU for being nominated to the Governing Body. As per rule, the Executive Council of Delhi University scrutinises these names and makes final selection.
The proposed names are not accepted if they don't fulfill the norms. Since Delhi Government had sent a number of controversial names which did not meet the required norms, the governing bodies could not being finalized. It is therefore, mischievous to blame Delhi University and stop funding colleges.
