In a bid to boost healthcare facilities in the national Capital, the AAP Government will open ‘mohalla clinics’ in Piragarhi area by end of this month on pilot basis. The AAP Government has announced the proposal to set up 500 ‘mohalla clinics’ in its Budget 2015-16.
The two-room mohalla clinics will be constructed in 50 square yards within two kilometers of each mohalla so that residents do not have to wander around for basic medical treatment.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said, “The mohalla clinics will start serving the people from this month and people will get quality health care treatment.” Centralised Government laboratories are also likely to open from July where all the tests will be carried out, he added.
Equipped with all necessary health care equipments, dispensaries and pharmacies with medicines, the mohalla clinics will also carry out the diagnostic services and blood tests.
Each clinic will have two doctors and nurses which can be increased with the time as per the requirement. “Since we have to open 500 mohalla clinics across the Capital, we will heir doctors and medical professional who are pursing Medical degree and who are willing to perform their work as a part time,” Rajesh Gupta, Parliamentary Secretary on health, said, adding that the doctors will be paid as number of patients, they treat or check.
The mohalla clinics will remain active for only three hours in the morning, but if more patients will visit the clinics, then it will also cater to the people in the evening for three hours more, said Gupta.
“Our aim is to provide medical treatment to the people living in poor and slum area who visit hospitals for their basic routine health check up, so that they do not waste their time standing in long queues in other hospitals,” Gupta said, adding that with this the pressure on other hospitals can be reduced.
For the revenue generation, the Government is also looking for the private investors for advertisement in order to boost revenue, so that more enhancements can be done meanwhile. Moreover, Government is also revamping primary care centres and dispensaries.
Recently, the Government, in its maiden Budget 2015-2106, has announced the construction of 500 mohalla clinics all over the city in the financial year. Moreover, five centralised labs with modern facility will be set up in North, South East, West and Central Delhi within this year.
