Govt to offer free medical aid to accident victims

The Delhi Government is going to implement the scheme for providing free medical treatment to road accident victims from the end of this month.

Under the scheme, all hospitals are bound to give aid to accident victims be it a foreigner or a resident of any State of India with the city Government agreeing to take care of expenses.

It may be noted that Health Minister, Satyender Jain had earlier shared details of this plan.

"Our main focus is on the road safety for which the Government is going to implement free treatment scheme to the accident victims in the city from end of this month. The effort of the Government is to save as many lives as possible," a Government official told The Pioneer.

Jain had said in March that the Delhi Government will bear the expenses of treatment in private hospitals of people injured in "road accidents, victims of burns and acid attacks".

"The Government has been conducting several meetings with the private hospitals to finalise on the scheme under which any person (accident victim) could be brought to private hospital and provided treatment immediately," he added.

The emergency treatment could range from any minor surgical procedure, including a blood test to a surgery.

"Under this scheme, the beneficiary does not have to necessarily be a resident of Delhi. Unlike the other such free treatment schemes by the Delhi Government, this one is for everyone who unfortunately experiences such incident," the official said.

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government has taken several initiatives to provide easy and accessible treatment to the patients in the national Capital.

Besides making sure the patients from Delhi are getting free medicines across the Government hospitals, the Arvind Kejriwal Government has made pathological and other medical tests free in a range of private diagnostic centres in Delhi.

Recently, the Chief Minister had also announced free surgeries for the residents of Delhi across 48 private hospitals in case the Government hospital is not able to provide assistance timely to the patient in need of urgent operation.
