Ahead of Assembly polls in November this year, the Delhi Government will organise a function at the Yamuna Sports Complex in East Delhi on September 10 to launch a scheme to grant ownership rights certificates to original allottees in 45 resettlement colonies which were developed during 1960-1980. The residents of the colonies had been demanding ownership rights for over two decades.
The AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will be the chief guest and will distribute the certificates to the allottees. The Delhi Government had, in July, decided to grant ownership rights to people living in such colonies and send the proposal to the Centre for clearance. The move would benefit around 7 lakh families that were allotted plots varying from 25 to 80 square yards on licence basis. The resettlement colonies were either developed by the DDA or the Central Government to accommodate families dislocated due to removal or demolition of JJ clusters.
land was allotted in the resettlement colonies, including Aruna Nagar and Majnu ka Tila, which comprised a total of about 2,50,000 plots. Officials said the Supreme Court had, in September 2010, given a green signal for granting ownership rights to the allottees.
The occupants, who have been allotted the plots before March 31, 2007, will have to pay 10 per cent of the circle rate. The occupants, who are there from April 1, 2007 onwards, will have to pay 30 per cent of the circle rate. The Delhi Government has recommended 5 per cent (original allottees) and 15 per cent (not original allottees) of the circle rate to grant ownership right to resettlers.
