Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday sought suggestions from students, parents and teachers regarding the reopening of schools and other educational institutions in the national Capital.
Sisodia said that the decision regarding reopening of educational institutions in Delhi would be made after taking suggestions from all stakeholders into account.
“Should Delhi open it's schools and colleges now? If you are a parent, student, teacher or principal in Delhi's school or college, please send me your suggestions on DelhiSchools21@gmail.com,” Sisodia tweeted.
At present, special Parent-Teachers Meetings (PTMs) are being organised in all of the Delhi Government schools from July 19 till July 31. Sisodia visited many schools and interacted with parents and teachers during the PTMs and found them curious regarding the reopening of schools as well as fearful about the safety of the children. The Deputy Chief Minister said, “The Government had closed schools and colleges keeping in mind the safety and security of children. But as of now the pandemic is under control in Delhi as approximately 70,000-75,000 coronavirus tests are being conducted daily in Delhi with only a handful of positive cases. Therefore, before making any decision to open educational institutions, the Government wants to take suggestions from parents, teachers, principals, and children as to when and how to open educational institutions.”
It may be noted that in the special PTMs running in all the Government schools, over five lakh parents visited the schools and interacted with the teachers about their children's education and well-being during the pandemic. Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 67 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. With this, the tally of Covid-19 cases in the national Capital has reached over 14.36 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 25,049. Three fatalities have also been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi Health Department.
