Govt's yudh against pollution has failed: Cong

With the air quality continuing to deteriorate in the national Capital, Delhi Congress attacked the Delhi Government, saying that Delhi Government’s “yudh” (war) against pollution has failed to address the issue.

“The toxicity of Delhi’s air has galloped to “severe” level two days after Deepawali, to make a mockery of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind’s “Yudh” (War) against pollution, his verbal utterances only adding to the noise pollution, as Delhi continues to be a “gas chamber”, endangering the lives of the people,” senior Congress leader and former MLA Anil Bhardwaj said on Saturday.

Addressing the media, Bhardwaj said that after the Covid-19 pandemic devastated people, Delhi hospitals are now flooded with dengue patients and those with respiratory diseases and dedicated Covid beds being used to treat dengue patients.

“The Kejriwal Government’s ‘war’ against crackers bursting on Diwali day was also a big flop, with Arvind blaming the BJP for ‘encouraging’ people to burst crackers, resulting in a spike in air pollution,” he said.

The Congress leader further said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind is indulging in shadow boxing with the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi, to cover up his Government’s failure on all fronts. He said that all of  Arvind’s  action plans for summer, monsoon and winter have come to a naught.

Bhardwaj said that the failure of the Arvind Government’s plans to check water-logging, dengue and air pollution were due to no effective long-term, mid-term and short-term plans.

He said that instead of owning up to his Government’s utter incompetence to check air pollution, Arvind was blaming others and other factors like stubble burning by farmers, cracker bursting etc to offer lame excuses, though 41 per cent air pollution is due to vehicular traffic.
