The Delhi Government has rejected the request of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) seeking exemption of vehicles participating in the religious procession that will be carried out on Friday, the first day of the scheme which also happens to be on Ramnavami.
The Government said since it is a religious procession, most people will be walking on the route. Transport Minister Gopal Rai also said since commercial vehicles and two-wheelers do not come under the ambit of odd-even scheme, they are free to ply. “If some cars need to be used, then I request them to use only odd-numbered cars,” he said.
In the letter to the Chief Minister, VHP leader Bachan Singh said on Ramnavami, like every year, a huge religious procession will be taken out from Ramleela Maidan at 1 pm on Friday. The procession will be supported by the temples of Delhi, religious organisations, VHP, Arya Samaj, as well as the Sikh community.
The procession will start from Ramleela Maidan and will pass through Afzal Ali Road, Delhi Gate, Dariyaganj, Subhash Park, lal Quila, Chandani Chowk, Sadar Bazar and Bada Hindu Rao and will conclude at Shree Ram Vatika Shri Gurugangeshwar Dham.
