The Aam Admi Party (AAP) Government on Wednesday decided to raise the circle rates of agricultural land in national Capital and it will now range between Rs 2.25 crore to Rs 5 crore per acre and thus brought bigger relief to Delhi farmers.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who chaired the Cabinet meeting, said the circle rate has been raised from Rs 53 lakhs per acre to Rs 2.25 crore - Rs 5 crore per acre.

Kejriwal said that he will seek the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in this regard.  During Delhi Cabinet meeting, Chief  Minister Arvind Kejriwal  announced that as per the newly approved rates, the circle rates in Delhi now range between Rs 2.25 Crores to Rs 5 Crores per acre, depending upon the type of village and district in which village falls with respect to the existing rate Rs 53 Lakh per acre.

“There has been a long pending demand of farmers of Delhi for enhancement of circle rates of agriculture lands in Delhi as the same has not been revised since 2008 and the present circle rate of Rs 53 Lakhs per acre for all categories of villages is much less than the prevailing market rates,” Kejriwal said.

“Due to such difference in the circle rate and prevailing market rates, the farmers of Delhi were not getting their rightful dues at the time of acquisition of their lands for various schemes of Government and other projects,” he said.

“Factoring this demand, the Cabinet today approved the enhancement of circle rates for agriculture lands in rural, urban and green belt villages of Delhi”, Kejriwal added further.

The new circle rates for agriculture land are given below category wise.

District Proposed rates for Green Belt Villages (in Rs. Crore per acre) Proposed rates for Urbanized Villages (in Rs. Crore per acre) Proposed Rate for Rural Villages (in Rs. Crore per acre)

“A proposal to increase the Circle Rate had been

made and sent to the Lieutenant Governor but was not approved by him. We will send the new cabinet decision in this regard to the Lieutenant Governor and find no reason for him to disapprove it,” Kejriwal asserted.

According to Delhi Government official, these enhanced rates five to ten times and  will go a long way in mitigating the distress faced by the farmers of Delhi who are adversely affected due to low prices offered to their acquired lands.
