Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that the Delhi Government is providing the lowest tariff for charging electric vehicles in the country with a provision of sub-metering for commercial buildings to provide ‘Electric Vehicles’ (EVs) charging facilities anywhere in the national capital.
Gahlot said that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) notified a policy wherein a commercial building like a hotel or malls, providing EV charging facilities can install a sub-meter and the EV tariff rate will apply to these. This will encourage people to provide EV charging facilities on their own premises.”
“The Government has carried out a comprehensive planning to build an effective EV charging infrastructure across the national capital for faster uptake of electric vehicles (EVs). The government left no stone unturned to pave way for the smooth transition of EVs. We already have over 72 charging stations in the city and 100 new charging stations are coming up with 500 charging points in the next six months,” he said.
The minister has urged malls, corporate, market complexes, and cinema halls, hotels to promote electric vehicles and set up charging stations on their premises.
“I appeal to the stakeholders to take the Switch Delhi Pledge at https://ev.delhi.gov.in/Pledge and come together to encourage the public to switch to EVs. Take this pledge to install charging stations to pave a way for a cleaner and greener Delhi,” Gahlot added.
“As the Switch Delhi Campaign enters the fourth week, we will focus on creating awareness on the sound public charging infrastructure that is in place in Delhi. This will be a key enabler in achieving CM Arvind Kejriwal’s vision of making Delhi the EV capital of India," he added.
“Delhi already has the highest number of charging stations in any city in India. Delhiites can view the list and location charging stations in the national capital on Delhi’s EV website - ev.delhi.gov.in. The government aims to achieve the goal of having charging stations every three km in the city,” Gahlot said. Switch Delhi is an eight-week mass awareness campaign by the Delhi Government to sensitize each Delhiite about the benefits of switching to EVs to the environment as well as to make them aware of the incentives and infrastructure being developed under Delhi’s EV policy.
