Govt postpones Independence Day event at Burari

The Delhi Government decided to postpone Independence Day event involving 52,000 school children — through which it had intended to create a world record of the largest human flag, due to the flooding of rain water at its venue — the Burari Grounds. According to officials, waterlogging played spoilsport for a Delhi government event which was going to witness school students forming the layout of the "world's largest tricolour". Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced last week that thousands of children will come together seeking to create a world record of making the largest layout of tricolour on August 4. The event was scheduled to be held at Burari Ground but it got postponed due to water logging at  venue. The chief minister was supposed to attend the event.

Taking a dig at the AAP government, Delhi Congress president Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was shocking that the Delhi Government had to abandon  its programme featuring 50,000 students from Delhi Government schools to “create a world record for the largest human flag” as part of the 75th Independence Day celebrations as Burari ground due to water logging. “If the Burari ground got water-logged, then Delhi Government should have had the common sense to keep a standby stadium ready to face such unforeseen circumstances,” he said.
