Govt on shaky ground as Shokeen pulls rug on AAP

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government appeared to be on precarious ground after an Independent legislator withdrew his support from the Government. Rambeer Shokeen on Monday on told The Pioneer that he has withdrawn support from the Government as it has failed to deliver on the promises of drinking water and increasing the lal Dora area. The minority Government together with the support of eight Congress MlAs has exactly 35 seats, while it needs 36 seats to remain in power.

If Kejriwal is asked to prove his majority, the Speaker, who is from his party, can bridge the gap by casting his vote. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has 27 legislators, including the Speaker. The Congress provides the support of eight lawmakers, though the alliance is a deeply dysfunctional one with both sides accusing each other regularly of malpractice.

The Independent legislator from the Mundka area accused the Government of not delivering on the supply of drinking water in the rural areas, expansion of the lal Dora areas and better healthcare and transport facilities in his area, even after repeated reminders. “I could not submit my letter of withdrawal of support to the lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday but have sought time from him,” said Shokeen.

Meanwhile, the other legislator whose support is crucial to keep the government in its place is JD(U) MlA Shoaib Iqbal who wrote a letter to the l-G on the day offering his support to the government and urging him to avert the political crisis facing the Government.
