In a bid to improve quality of education in Government-run schools, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday announced a mega parents-teachers meeting (PTM) on July 30 which he described as first positive dialogue between parents and teachers. By doing so, the Government aims at making parents of Government schools students as “stakeholders” of education.
Moreover, the Delhi Government has decided to hold the PTMs twice every year.
Announcing the initiative, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia said, “Quality education can be imparted when parents and teachers work together for the overall development of their children and the Delhi Government remains committed in its efforts to strengthen this across all Government schools. This initiative is aimed at opening the doors of the school for all parents and celebrating the occasion with them. We aim to enhance communication between parents and teachers and wish to remove the natural hesitation and bridge the existing gap. The Mega PTMs will be held twice a year across all schools in Delhi and we urge parents to participate in these meetings and celebrate this occasion.”
Not revealing the amount, he said the Government sanctioned separate Budget to organise PTMs in nearly 1,000 schools run by it.
“Welcoming teams have been formed to look after the parents during the meeting. Separate Budget allocation is also made to organise to the PTMs,” he told reporters.
“The focus of the PTM will be to encourage one-to-one communication between parents and teachers. The parents should celebrate the occasion as it is being held to improve the quality of education in schools,” he added. The Deputy Chief Minister also urged the parents to give feedback and share the grievances during the meeting.
Sisodia said the Government was improving quality of education in its schools everyday through policies, new infrastructure including CCTVs, classrooms and furniture.
Also, he said the Government has directed all its senior officials of the Education Department including directors, deputy directors, and assistant director to hold a meeting with parents of Government schools’ students from 12 to 1 pm on Friday every week to address their issues.
