Govt gives final touch to 1K e-bus tender

Published on:

Delhi Cabinet is finalising the modalities to approve the tender for procuring 1,000  Electric buses as the tender is on final stage. Expressing the resolve of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to augment the fleet of buses, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “We are concerned about the health of our people. We are doing everything possible within our control to reduce pollution in Delhi. I have seen many conscious Delhiites doing their bit too. All of us together can make it happen.”

Kejriwal congratulated the transport Minister Kailash Gahlot for the successful  trial run of third e-bus (Anand Vihar Inter State Bus Terminus to Mehrauli — 534) in the city.

At time when Delhi is reeling under the high toxicity due to vehicular emission, these buses will be a boon for the local environment and with 30 per cent reduction in interior noise levels of the buses ; the probability of low traffic noise is more.

“Tender for procuring e-buses is in the final stage and will be presented before the Delhi Cabinet very soon for approval”, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said on Thursday after flagging off the trial run of a battery-operated standard size bus.

“Transport department is fully prepared to implement car rationing scheme odd — even whenever the need arises to combat deteriorated air quality in the national Capital, adding, “The Delhi Government is moving ahead with procuring e-buses to combat high levels of air pollution in the city,” said Gehlot.

After flagging-off the fully electric bus, Gahlot stated, “Flagged off the third Electric Bus. This time it is Olectra BYD company. It will run on Route no 534 Anand Vihar ISBT to Mehrauli. Company claims that after overnight charging the bus can run for 250 kms.”

In order to assess the performance of electric buses in Delhi operating conditions.  Delhi Government has launched trial run of electric buses of different vehicle manufacturers in Delhi.

Two Electric Buses (PMI-Foton & JBM-Solaris) are already on trial run since November 2018.”The trial run would help the Government in understanding the issues involved in running of electric buses, including requirement of charging infrastructure.  Lessons learnt during trial run would help in formulating the bid document for 1,000 Electric Buses,” Gehlot added.
