The Delhi Government has announced Minimum Wage Campaign from June 13 in order to ensure the implementation of the minimum wages. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government announced on Thursday that they will soon launch minimum wage monitoring unit while special task force would be assigned per district.

"The Delhi Government  has increased minimum wages up to 37 per cent in consonance with the demands of labourers across the country. There was a lot of confusion vis-a-vis minimum wages after the Apex Chamber of Commerce had approached the court and there were rumours in the city that the increase in minimum wages has been put on hold. I want to clear that the High Court accepted their application but there is no stay on the minimum wages,” Minister of labour and Employment, Gopal Rai said at a Press conference.

“The High Court has also added another four applications related to the minimum wages. Till now there are 22 applications with regards to the minimum wages and court is going through it. However, there is no stay yet on it. We had also sent a file to the President which had been sent back and rumours were spread over it. But that file was about those who would not follow it.”

Rai said that the AAP Government has made the minimum wages effective since April 1 and “the increment must be given”.

The Government is planning to form 20 teams in nine districts to inspect the rollout of the minimum wages and also underlined that action would be taken against defaulters. This campaign will continue for month which is till July 13.

The AAP had a meeting with people associated with the labour community. “The Government will create awareness to clear this confusion through all means including radio about the minimum wages.”

“We will interact with all such institutions including FICCI, CIA and other departments to find a solution.”
