The Delhi Government on Thursday extended the electricity amnesty scheme ‘Bijli Bill Vivad Samadhan Scheme’ for another period of two months, thereby giving much relief to the eligible consumers who still haven’t settled their electricity bills. The Government also extended the scheme to residential colonies of 1984 riot victims.
It may be noted the Government had launched the scheme for resolution of grievances of the electricity consumers for a period of one month on August 30. The scheme was later extended till October 31. Now, the benefits of the scheme can be availed by eligible consumers till December 31. The Government, however, clarified that no settlement will be done after December 31.
The scheme provides opportunity to settle electricity disputes related to power theft, meter tampering, misuse or unauthorised use of electricity, disconnections and electricity bill disputes in JJ clusters.
Meanwhile, the Gover-nment also decided to extend the scope of the scheme to residential colonies of 1984 riot victims in line with ongoing settlement scheme for JJ clusters.
“The Government has received a number of representations from 1984 riot victims and majority of residents of the victim colonies belong to economically weaker sections without a source of regular income. Many of them could not pay their electricity bills. They have requested the Government to provide relief in settlement of long pending electricity bills,” the Government said in a statement.
“Accordingly, for such outstanding bills, a lump sum payment of Rs250 per month will be charged from the date of payment of last bill till July, 2015. In disconnected cases, amount may be charged on similar basis from the date of last payment till date of disconnection,” it added.
In all such cases, 100 per cent late Payment Surcharge (lPSC) will be waived off and the final amount will be recovered from the consumer in six monthly installments.
