Govt derecognises JD Tytler School, Rajinder Nagar branch

Published on:

The JD Tytler School in Rajinder Nagar has been derecognised by the Delhi Government’s education department for violating the order to provide admissions to students under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota and not providing free stationery, books and uniforms to students already admitted under EWS category.

The  JD Tytler School, has also been asked not to admit any students for the 2022-23 academic session, and pay salaries and arrears of the staff till the school is in operation.

There was no immediate reaction from the school authorities. The decision has been taken based on the recommendations of the SC/ST Welfare Committee.

This order by the Directorate of Education (DoE) will be in effect from April 1, 2022. Vishesh Ravi, the chairman of the committee, said that according to the order issued by the Education Department on July 16, 2022, children have the right to free and compulsory education.“Violation of the order of the department was found at JD Tytler School located in New Rajinder Nagar,” he said. “The committee had found that the school had not given admission to some students under the EWS quota and also had not provided free stationery to students already admitted under the EWS category. The action was recommended keeping in mind the interests of the children studying in the school,” said Ravi.

“It has been instructed by the Education Department that the school will not admit new students in any class from the academic session 2022-23 and after that. The concerned District DDE will ensure that the students of JD Tytler School are accommodated in the nearest Government Schools if they so desire,” said Ravi.

The DoE had issued show-cause notices to private schools in the national Capital refusing to admit students under the EWS quota. Even after the notice, some private schools had not taken admission of EWS students and had not even given them stationery. Therefore, the committee had asked the education department to withdraw the recognition and register an FIR on receipt of complaints against such private schools.

Earlier, on the recommendation of the committee, the Education Department had issued several show cause notices to JD Tytler School.

“The Education Department delegation visited the school several times and held several meetings with the school administration to ensure fair treatment to EWS students and parents. But the school refused to take admission of students under EWS quota even after several attempts,” said Ravi.

“The response of the school to the show cause notice was not acceptable,” he added.
