Govt approaches Centre for getting quarters of 40 babus vacated

Published on:

The AAP Government has reportedly urged the Centre to get all the houses vacated by June 30, 2016, which are still being occupied by IAS and DANICS officers who are no longer working with the Delhi Government.

The Government is said to have sent Delhi Cabinet’s decision, along with a list of 40 IAS and DANCIS officers, posted either with the Centre and other States and  Union Territories, who are still retaining their  Government accommodation in the national Capital.

Among the officers  whose names  have reportedly been sent to the Centre are 1984 batch bureaucrats - Shakuntala D Gamlin, posted as the  Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh , Arvind Ray, transferred to Mizoram and Goa Chief Secretary S R K Srivastava, 1985-batch officer Parimal Rai, appointed as the advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator, 1990-cadre’s  Jitendra Narain and 1994 batch officer Asish Chandra Verma, both  posted  to Arunachal Pradesh, 1996 cadre’s  Gitanjali Gupta Kundra, who is  in Mizoram, 2000 batch officer  K K Jindal, who is in Chandigarh,  2003 cadre bureaucrat  Biaktulunga, posted to Mizoram, 2007 batch officer Govind Jaiswal,  who is in Goa, 2012 batch officers Satyendra  Singh Dursawat (Pudducherry), Sonal Sawarup and  Himanshu Gupta (both in  Arunachal Pradesh) and Harleen Kaur ( Mizoram).

Several bureaucrats said that rules  clearly state that families of bureaucrats carrying out difficult postings in places like Arunachal Pradesh,  Mizoram and Puducherry can retain alternate  accommodation in  Delhi for two years. But  the one’s who have taken up soft postings in places like Chandigarh and Goa are not covered under any such rule.

The AAP Government’s  decision to get its houses  vacated  by all the officers  who were not serving with it was  taken at a Cabinet meeting last month. Sources said the AAP Government also  decided to approach the Centre to provide it with equivalent number of same category of Government houses in lieu of its  houses occupied by IAS and Danics officers posted with the Union Government or any other State or Union Territory by June 30,2016, failing which the same rules shall apply to the  bureaucrats posted out of Delhi as they apply to ministers of Delhi when they demit office.

A copy of the minutes of the city Cabinet accessed by The Pioneer said, “The Cabinet noted with the concern that while the Delhi Government has limited housing stock for its officers and employees, there are many officers posted outside Delhi who are retaining Government houses in Delhi. Since the Delhi Government is facing an acute shortage of houses and since the Central Government is cadre controlling authority of IAS and DANICS officers, it was decided that matter be taken up with the Government of India to provide equivalent number of same category of Government houses to it in lieu of the Delhi Government house occupied by IAS and DANICs posted in Government of India or other States/Union Territories by June 30,2016 failing which the same rules shall apply to the officers posted out of Delhi as they apply to ministers of Delhi when they remit office.”

An officer who is close to AAP Government justified the Cabinet’s decision and said when he was transferred from Delhi , he vacated his Government accommodation.
