Govt allowed discoms to run free with tariff: Gupta

Published on:

leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta said on Thursday that the Delhi Government has failed to rein in DISCOMS and allowed them to have free run with regard to tariff petitions. Though actual base price of power purchase is now Rs 0.50/unit lesser than fixed by the DERC, the DISCOMS have not passed this benefit to consumers. In addition, there is about 14 per cent cut in power generation cost, this has not been passed to consumers, Gupta said.

The leader of Opposition said the reason DISCOMS give is that there is no chairperson of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). “This should not debar DERC to exercise control over power utilities and DISCOMS not submitting power tariff petitions. Had the Delhi Government taken strong and timely measures, the power tariff could have cut down by 20 per cent. Despite actual reduction in power cost, the same has not been passed on to consumers,” he said

Hitting at the AAP Government, Gupta said the Government could have sent notices to DISCOMS to submit tariff petitions. “It kept quiet and the DISCOMS have found an excuse not to do so. The excuse that DERC has no Chairperson is not acceptable,” Gupta said.
