Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the almighty gave the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) 67 seats keeping in mind that 20 AAP MlAs would be disqualified after three years.
Chief Minister’s remarks came after President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday, approved Election Commission (EC)’s recommendation to disqualify 20 AAP MlAs on the charges of holding ‘office of profit’.
“I have always said it was God’s grace. He also knew that after three years these people would declare 20 of our MlAs disqualified. That’s why he gave us 67 seats out of 70 in the Delhi Assembly polls,” he said in a statement on the Aam Aadmi Party’s Twitter handle.
Kejriwal minced no words in attacking the Centre after 20 AAP MlAs were disqualified for holding offices of profit, saying his Government was being harassed.
“They (BJP-led Centre) have tremendously victimised us by imposing fake cases on our MlAs. They conducted CBI raids on me and didn’t get anything and today they declared 20 of our MlAs disqualified,” Kejriwal said in another tweet.
Kejriwal said the AAP will approach the Delhi High Court against this “extremely unconstitutional, unethical and biased decision of the EC”.
“If required we will go to the Supreme Court. The Constitution is supreme and is the law of the land and has been protected by our Judiciary time and again.”
Addressing a gathering in the Najafgarh area here, the Chief Minister said when someone is on the path of truth that person has to face a lot of problems. Without naming the BJP, he said, “We are saving every single penny of the Government, but there are a lot of problems coming our way. They are trying to harass us by all means. They have imposed false cases on us and our MlAs.” “They also got a CBI raid done on my office, but they found my four mufflers only after a 24-hour search. Our MlAs were arrested,” he said.
The lieutenant-Governor had called 400 files of the Delhi Government pertaining to the decisions taken in the last two years, but they did not find anything against us, Kejriwal said. “When they did not find anything against us, they today disqualified our 20 MlAs,” he said. Earlier in the day, the President accepted the EC’s recommendation to disqualify 20 MlAs of AAP for holding offices of profit.
A notification issued by the law Ministry quoted the President as saying that in the light of the opinion expressed by the EC, the 20 members of the Delhi legislative Assembly have been disqualified. The poll panel had on January 19 recommended to President that the 20 MlAs were liable for disqualification for holding offices of profit between March 13, 2015, and September 8, 2016.
