A notice has been served on incarcerated self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s ashram in Ghaziabad by the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) for non-payment of property tax, water bills and sewer tax.
The civic agency, which had served the notice last month, is mulling over slapping another ‘demand bill’ on the ashram on Tuesday for the bill totalling `5.86 lakh. The GNN officials have asked Asaram’s management to pay the dues “immediately”. The ashram is located in the Nandgram area of the district.
“We had sent notice to Asaram’s management last month giving a one-month time for submission of its objection. But, there is still no response from the other party. If they fail to file their response by Tuesday, we would slap a demand bill on them this time,” said RK Singh, Municipal Commissioner, GNN.Earlier, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) had also issued notice to Asaram for evading property tax on account of his ashram located near Karol Bagh.
