On a day Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday flagged off 150 electric buses, the BJP asked the Delhi Government to give credit to the Modi Government. The Chief Minister flagged off the buses from the Indraprastha Depot and boarded one of them to reach the Rajghat Bus Depot. He was accompanied by Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar.
The Delhi Government is also offering three days of free bus rides to everyone in these e-buses to promote the switch towards electric vehicles.
Kejriwal said that city residents can enjoy free rides on these buses for next three days. “They are your buses, I urge you to travel and enjoy – to take a joyride on these electric buses, while also taking care by not littering or damaging them,” he said. “This launch has marked the beginning of a new era in the transport sector and next month another 150 will be added to the fleet.
It is our target to have 2,000 electric buses running on the roads in Delhi within the next year,” said Kejriwal. Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president and Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta said that Kejriwal was presenting the e-buses provided to Delhi by the Central Government, as an achievement of his Government.
“Under Central Government scheme, 5595 electric buses have been sanctioned to 64 Cities / State Govt. Entities /STUs for intra-city and intercity operation. Out of this, Delhi is to get 300 e-buses,” he said.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor wrote a letter to the CM demanding to incorporate a credit line for the Centre for the new buses.
