The debutant Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing, lays special emphasis on the safety of girl students on campus with demands of gender-sensitisation workshops for all first year students, an anti-street harassment cell in all colleges, CCTVs in all U-special buses and increased women’s safety through suraksha button.
The youth-wing also promised to increase the number of hostels for North Eastern students as well as the implementation of Vishakha guidelines on Sunday as it released its ‘Charter of Demands’ for Delhi University Students’ Union elections scheduled for September 11.
“DU has land in various locations, which is still unused. We will request DU to make more hostels for the students and especially for those from North-East so that they don’t have to bear the brunt of high rent,” said Anmol Panwar, vice-president of CYSS..
Taking a cue from the recently announced schemes by AAP Government, CYSS promises free Wi-Fi, jobs and education loans to students. The youth wing promises Wi-Fi in three months in all U-special buses, colleges and Delhi campuses.
They also emphasised on speedy roll-out of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Higher Education and Skill Education Guarantee Scheme of the Delhi Government. “We are aware that the Delhi Government has already approved this scheme and it will provide and education loan of up to Rs10 lakh without any collateral or third party guarantee,” said Panwar.
On the posters and pamphlets for the poll campaign trail bearing the face of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and not the candidates themselves, Anmol said, “Arvind Kejriwal has been an inspiration for the young. A lot of students from DU have participated during our previous campaigns, so there is nothing wrong to have his image on the posters.”
The manifesto also promises a hassle-free ride to all DU students with full-year DTC bus pass, metro concessional cards, an increase in the number of U-special buses. “Till now a full-year bus pass was not available to DU students. There are some such students who do not go back home after the exams, therefore DTC should immediately initiate steps to start a full-year bus pass,” said Anmol.
The youth wing, which is making a foray in student polls swore to undertake student welfare politics in DU with a promise to set up pocket-friendly Aam Aadmi Canteens in the vicinity of colleges. CYSS members said these canteens will be provided at each colleges and at multiple locations in each Delhi University campus which will offer nutritious food at low prices. They also demanded a separate campus each for East and West Delhi colleges.
The CYSS manifesto pitches for increase in toilets and improvement of sanitary condition in colleges and promises Aam Aadmi Clinics near all colleges.
