A 16-year-old girl was allegedly attacked with a blade by a man for refusing to share her elder sister’s mobile phone number with him, police said on Sunday. The injured girl was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and treated for her gashes. Police said her statement has been taken and a case registered.
In an incident that happened in Outer Delhi’s Kirari area on Thursday night, the accused —identified as Saurabh — attacked the girl in a marketplace following an argument. The suspect was immediately collared by the onlookers and thrashed before he managed to escape. He was eventually nabbed by police a few hours later.
Saurabh, 23, and the victim’s sister were known to each other as they had previously worked together at a factory in Mundka in West Delhi. Police said Saurabh wanted to come closer to her but the girl paid no heed to his overtures. A few weeks ago, the girl quit her job and changed her mobile number. But he had found out her address and had visited the girl’s home on occasions.
On Thursday, Saurabh visited her house and openly sought her number, but was turned away and warned by the family not to stalk her ever again. “He did not return home and instead waited near her place. When the girl’s minor sister visited the local market an hour later, he intercepted her midway,” said a police officer.
