Get ready to battle fog for next 3 days

Published on:

Shallow fog will remain for next three days in isolated pockets of the Capital as no active disturbance has been observed till Monday evening. A senior Indian Metrological Department (IMD) official said minimum temperature will remain the same for the next 48 hours.

“The Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) present in Delhi air needs a strong wind to settle down. In our monitoring system, we are observing that western disturbances are active in Afghanistan region and due to this, the weather in Delhi will remain partly cloudy for next three days,” said a senior scientist in IMD.

“There are possibilities of rain in next four days when the active disturbance will reach in high altitude areas of North India — Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh,” he said.

Explaining about the climate aspect on presence of mass concentration of Particulate Matter (PM) in Delhi air, scientists said relative humidity in the air is increasing by seventy per cent due to which the smog in surrounded area mix with pollutants and results in high mass concentration of SPM which cause respiratory diseases. In real time, air ambient quality data of Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCC), the level of Relative Humidity (RH) was 46.69 per cent in Civil lines area while in IGI airport area, the percentage of RH 53.83.

“The wind speed is too low to settle down the pollutant particles. Along with the adequate rain, the high wind speed also a major contributory factor to presence of pollutants in air,” said senior official and met observer in Delhi.
