A 19-year-old German national allegedly committed suicide by jumping on the railroad tracks in Faridabad. The girl had reportedly gone missing on October 2 and a missing person’s complaint was lodged by her room-mates at Chittaranjan Park Police Station in South East district.
The incident is now being investigated by Government Railway Police (GRP), Faridabad and an inquest will be conducted at Rohtak Medical College on Saturday. Police officials said that they have informed the German Embassy and arrangements are being made to transport her body to her country after the autopsy. Alternatively, her parents might reach the Capital.
The incident came to light when two friends of the German student — Judith Aino Ehnas — lodged a missing person’s complaint at Chittaranjan Park Police Station on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. She lived in a ground floor flat with her friends — Swang and Martey. They all worked for Pravah, an NGO in Kalkaji which deals with empowering youth. Ehnas had reached Delhi on August 15 and started working at the NGO.
“A German-based company Mizaril which works in collaboration with the NGO had sent these three students for a programme to the NGO. Her body was recovered on the railway tracks in Faridabad on Thursday afternoon,” said a police official.
Police sources revealed that the girl had apparently committed suicide by jumping on the railway tracks in Faridabad. The location of her cell phone was last traced to Faridabad. On October 2, the girl’s friends had gone to Rajghat to spend time at the Gandhi Memorial. They waited for Judith till late night and when she did not return home, they filed a complaint. Judith was reportedly suffering from health issues. She was last seen on October 2 buying fruits in the locality. The CR Park Police had registered a case of kidnapping under Section 365 of the IPC.
The three of them resided at the rear of H block in CR Park. The caretaker to the house on the first floor, Balram, said that the three friends had moved in around one-and-a half months back. They did not interact much with neighbours.
lalit Kumar, in-charge of GRP, Faridabad, told The Pioneer that on October 2 around 3 pm a girl’s body was found on the rail tracks. “The driver of the Chandigarh-Kochi Express train did not have enough time to slam the brakes saying the girl had caught him by surprise. Delhi Police and the GRP will now jointly carry out investigations. Probable sexual assault and homicide will also be considered during investigation,” he said.
Her friends at the NGO are in a state of denial. When contacted, CEO, Pravah, Neha Buch, said, “Ehnas joined us in mid-August and was to be with us for nine months.”
