The civil services aspirants of General Category have expressed disappointment over discrepancy in number of appointments made under General Category in the results announced by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
According to the results, released by the UPSC on July 4, a total of 1,236 candidates have been recommended for the appointments.
“The UPSC recommended for 590 General Category candidates for appointment. However, number of General Category candidates should be 718 as 55 per cent of seats are reserved for General Category in civil services,” an aspirant in Mukherjee Nagar said, seeking the immediate attention from the commission.
As per the results, the point IV is showing that for General Category aspirants, 90 seats are dedicated to Indian Administrative Services (IAS), 16 seats for Indian Foreign Services (IFS), 75 seats for Indian Police Services (IPS) while 363 and 174 seats are dedicated to the Central Services Group “A” and Group “B” services respectively, which takes the total to 718.
Aspirants raised doubts when they saw that in point II of the result sheet, the recommendations for the appointments of the general category students are mentioned 590 only which is not in coherence with the sum of the services distribution.
The General Category aspirants are feeling cheated as the distribution of services in case of OBC, SC, ST category is same as the number of seats recommended for appointment.
“The result is not clear this time. There are certain problems which are faced by the aspirants. For instance, one of my friends has scored 480th rank in the result list but his name is mentioned in the waiting list,” said a civil service aspirant in Mukherjee Nagar.
“When he approached the UPSC regarding the matter, the commission assured him that in a week, the status about his appointment will be cleared,” he added. The General Category aspirants are raising the point that when posts are available, then why the commission has reduced the number of applicants who have been cleared the exam.
