Addressing the Home Guards, provided to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for the safety of female commuters, Transport Minister Gopal Rai announced that he will arrange for gender-sensitisation training for the newly-inducted marshals.
Elaborating on the training, Rai said it will be provided by Manas Foundation through a three-hour module to help the marshals in further understanding the issues faced by female commuters.
“The training will be given in the batches of 50 guards in Millennium Depot. During the course of training, each trainee will sign a pledge and will be handed over the same to remind them of their responsibilities towards their duty. A badge, communicating his commitment towards women safety, will also be given to them. And thus, all the DTC buses will be provided a common security zone for the commuters,” the Minister said.
A DTC official said that Home Guards were earlier deployed in all the night-service buses and with their deployment during the day, DTC buses will become safer round-the-clock. “These Home Guards have been deployed in different checking beats throughout Delhi, along with checking supervisory staff of DTC to attend any kind of untoward incident with the passengers,” said the official.
During the event, held at Shah Auditorium in Civil lines, Manas Foundation also staged a nukkad natak reflecting the message that not only the Home Guards, but each and every co-passenger is responsible for safety of the female commuters discouraging miscreants.
