The Uttar Pradesh Government has removed Vijay Kumar Yadav, Vice-Chairman of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). Yadav has been put on a compulsory wait list by the Aditya Nath Yogi Government which issued its first list of transfers on Wednesday.
The controversial officer had taken over as Vice-Chairman of GDA on May 21, 2014. During the two years of his tenure, he diverted earmarked funds for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) project to ‘Samajwadi Avas Yojna’. This forced the GDA to opt for overdraft from banks to pay DMRC for its Dilshad Garden — New Bus Stand project.
“As the target set by the Akhilesh Government to construct Samajwadi Avas for deprived sections by the GDA had already been completed and 2,000 flats were constructed, Yadav ordered construction of 500 more houses in Koyal Enclave and Indraprastha housing schemes,” said an official.
“This put the GDA in financial trouble as at that time the property rates were at the lowest, and instead of selling plots, Yadav decided to sell the constructed houses. These houses became a liability on the authority as there were no takers. The decision by Yadav was against the noting of the Town Planning Department,” said Rajendra Tyagi, the Municipal Councillor and former GDA Board member. A CAG audit was not permitted during his tenure, he said.
