GDA guard appointed to take care of rabbits held for killing them

In a classic case of fence eating the crop, a Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) guard has been apprehended for allegedly killing rabbits which he was deputed to take care off. The Animal lovers who were feeding and taking care of these rabbits in city forest’s rabbit zone area had also written a letter to GDA vice chairperson demanding immediate action against the guard.    The animal lovers alleged that the rabbits are being used as food for GDA guards posted for their safety.

In a letter to the GDA Vice Chairperson Kanchan Verma, Ashima Sunil, President Animal India Foundation, stated that during inspection of the rabbit zone, her volunteers found them in injured and unhealthy condition. They were found continuously fighting with each other due to lack of care, proper diet and regular supervision.

The guard working in the day time must be removed immediately as our volunteers have come to know that he takes away one rabbit everyday for his own food. If he is not dismissed from the job, his duty should be changed to some other place and an animal lover should be posted there.

“Being a government body, the maintenance level can not match with private organizations but on her complaints, the arrangements have been made to regular monthly visit to the forest and efforts are being made to improve the diet for them.

The allegation of eating as food is not found but internal inquiry is being conducted in this allegation” said Govind Singh the Horticulture Incharge of GDA.
