GDA accused of selling land to pvt builders, flouting rules

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has sold municipal land to private builders, alleged Rajendra Tyagi, a local councillor of municipal body.

He claimed that the GDA has violated the rules by selling municipal land.

“The local development authority can acquire land for public utility services. But it cannot sell land to private builders below the circle rates”, he alleged.

Giving detailed account of the alleged bungling, the councillor said the GDA acquired khasra number 1637 at Shahpur Bamheta and sold it to Delhi-based utility builders at Rs3,050.70 per square meter while its circle rate was Rs17,000/- per square meter.

“The authority didn’t stop there. It again acquired municipal land in Mahrauli village at Rs1,100/- per square metre. While the rules allow the GDA to acquire land only for public utility services, but the GDA not only acquire municipal land to sell to private builders but made them free hold also,” he added.

The matter was exposed and writ petition was filed in the Allahabad High court in one case in Noor Nagar Sihani last month.

“When the Allahabad High court quashed the sale, several other such cases came to public notice. People are approaching me with the request to file other petitions in the High Court,” added Tyagi.

“We are out of station on Government duty. Will share the details of the case after returning from the election duty next Monday,” said Secretary GDA Ravindran Madhukar Godbole.
