The Delhi Police has arrested a 41-year-old gangster from southeast Delhi’s Badarpur area in connection with allegedly planning to harm a senior Tihar Jail official to avenge the death of Ankit Gujjar inside prison.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Gurjar alias Bhai Ji, a resident of Palwal district in Haryana.
According to Jasmeet Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, in August 2021, an audio call between two persons became viral. In this call, Satender alias Satte was found asking his associate Ajay Gurjar to arrange an AK-47 rifle to execute the killing of a member of rival gang.
“Satender was also talking of causing serious harm to a Deputy Superintendent of Tihar Jail to avenge the death of their associate Ankit Gujjar in jail with the alleged connivance of jail staff. Ankit was found dead with multiple injuries on his body on August 4, 2021 inside central jail number 3 and Ankit’s family members had alleged that he was killed in prison with connivance of jail staff,” said the DCP.
“After the arrest of Satender on August 17, name of Ajay was identified as the caller on other end in the viral audio call. During investigation, an information was received on Thursday that Ajay would come to the Badarpur bus stand at Mathura Road around 7 pm to meet his associate. Later, a trap was laid and Ajay was nabbed,” said the DCP.
“Ajay previously involved in more than 24 criminal cases, including of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, assault, in Delhi, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan and Mumbai. Ajay’s cousin JP Gurjar, having underworld connections, sent him to Hafij Baloch, a dreaded gangster in Mumbai. Baloch had killed Jubair Patel in 2008. After the murder, Baloch came from Mumbai and stayed with Ajay and JP,” said the DCP.
After committing various cases of extortion, Ajay went to Mumbai and stayed in the house of Baloch. He was highly impressed with the luxurious lifestyle of Baloch and other gangsters of underworld. Since then, he has had underworld connections with four underworld gangsters -- Hafij Baloch, Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar (brother of Dawood Ibrahim), Subhash Thakur and Arif Jaan (brother-in-law of Chhota Shakil) -- in Mumbai, the DCP said.
Ajay had fired on nephew of Karan Singh Dalal and also on Shivcharan Lal Sharma, both ex-ministers of Haryana and one Chandi Ram Gupta, councilor of the area in Palwal, for extortion in 2012. Ajay was arrested in 2018 and came out of jail around 10 months ago, said the DCP.
