A Class X Dalit student, who was abducted and gang-raped by some ‘influential people’ few days ago, committed suicide on Thursday by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. After she was gang-raped, the family took shelter at a relative’s place in Farid Nagar in Modi Nagar. The family was allegedly under pressure to “compromise” with the accused.
“We had to leave our village since the police did not arrest all the four accused. The police arrested only one and left three others, who are still absconding. They are being protected by the local Samajwadi Party MlA,” said the girls father.
“They were pressurising us to settle the case. Though we had moved out from the village, they kept putting pressure on us. Our daughter could not cope with the harassment and committed suicide on Thursday morning,” said the girl’s father.
Ghaziabad SSP Dharmendra SinghYadav said, “It is a very sensitive matter. I am going to visit the police station and collect details of the case.”
On July 2, 2013, the four accused had allegedly barged into the girl’s and abducted her. They dumped her after raping her when the entire family was in the police station, awaiting any news of her.
The girl revealed the names of four people in her statement before the court recorded under Section 164 of CrPC, but the police had arrested one.
