Delhi Police on Sunday busted a gang of cheats which used to con foreign tourists. Madhur Verma, DCP New Delhi said, “We have arrestedRiyaz Ahmed Boktoo (32), a resident of Jungpura.”

In the recent past, we have received several complaints at the New Delhi district and from the Tourism Ministry where the victims alleged that they were being cheated by touts who charged high price on tour packages. In order to nab such touts, a team under ACP Connaught Place was formed and looked into the complaints, said Verma.

“In one such complaint, the complainants who were both residents of France visiting India , wanted to exchange their foreign currency near the Connaught place circle.  Touts interacted with them and misguided the foreign couple. During such exercise they duped sum of Rs 27,782/- in pretext of tour of Jaipur and Agra but no service or Tour was provided to the French couple,” said Verma

A case was registered and during investigation, Riyaz Ahmad Boktoo was arrested. During investigation, it came to notice that Riyaz Ahmad Boktoo is running these illegal activities in connivance with his partner Altaf who is absconding.

During sustained interrogation, the accused revealed that he along with Altaf are active in Connaught Place. They used to stay in Delhi in winters and move back to Jammu and Kashmir in summer. The accused is a B.com graduate from a private college in Kashmir.

Police said that they are making efforts to nab the other accused.
