The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of blackmailers allegedly posing as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and journalist with the arrest of five persons, including three women.
“The accused, identified as Sanjay Sahil Malik, Samir Sidiqui, Babita, Meenu and Satwinder Kaur, were arrested on April 7. A case under Section 384 (Punishment for extortion) and 120B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against them,” said police.
The women used to lure the victims through Whatsapp offering friendship, massage and other services. After calling victims to a flat in Ghaziabad, the gang members made their objectionable videos and blackmailed the victims by threatening to leak them.
Two gang members posing as senior police officer and a scribe extorted money from the victims.
Police said they received a complaint about extortion. “Based on the technical surveillance, we managed to trace all the five accused and arrest them,” they added.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that while Babita used to lure the victims, the other two women arranged the accommodation and made the video.
“Once the victim was made comfortable, Sanjay and Samir posing as cop and scribe entered the room and extorted the victims by threatening that they will be jailed if they do not give money, police said.
