Gadkari clears the air on land Bill

In a bid to “clarify” Central Government’s policy on land acquisition, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday addressed a rally in Dwarka. He apprised the farmers of the efforts being made by the Centre for the welfare of farmers and the compensation being given by the Central Government for damage by untimely rain.

“The land Acquisition law, being proposed Narendra Modi Government, will safeguard farmers’ interests. The Government will not undertake land acquisition for private organisations. Under new law, the land can be acquired only for Defence, rural infrastructure, cheap housing and Government industrial corridors. The Government will pay compensation up to four times higher than the prevailing market prices and the proof of Government’s intention is that during the last 10 months Centre has paid compensation up to thrice above the prevailing market rates while acquiring land for Transport and Power Ministries,” Gadkari said.

“This country has seen that the parties which claim to be working in the interest of farmers misused the land Acquisition Act for the companies run by the son-in-law and other builders especially in the States like Haryana and Rajasthan. Under the provisions of proposed Bill, the farmers shall get price which will be four times higher than the market price and it will also save the farmers from the fraud as witnessed in the States like Haryana and Rajasthan,” said Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay.

Kisan Morcha president Vinod Tyagi said, “The BJP has been working for the welfare of the farmers of Delhi and we shall submit our demands before the Central Government for paying damages to the farmers.”
