After three months of evading arrest, a 22-year-old was arrested with the help of Facebook. He had allegedly raped a minor girl known to one of his friends after holding her hostage for almost a year. The incident was reported from Outer Delhi’s Begumpur area.
Police said that he used to change his phone numbers almost every week so that he cannot be traced. He had held the girl hostage at a small rented house in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. Police said that the accused has been identified as Alok Ranjan (22).
The girl, however, managed to free herself from there and came to Delhi in September where she narrated her ordeal to the cops. A case was registered at the Begumpur police station. Narrating her ordeal, she told the cops that she was not given food for days at a stretch and was raped many a times. Ranjan used to consume alcohol almost daily and thrashed her. She said that on one of the days, when the person was drunk and forget to tie her up, she freed herself and came to Delhi.
A team was henceforthformed and investigations in the case began.
A few people, known to the accused, told the cops about Ranjan’s addiction to Facebook and how he could not go a day without operating his account. A woman cop looked up for him on Facebook and sent him a friend request, which he almost immediately accepted.
She started talking to him and after getting him in confidence, asked him to meet her at Netaji Subhash Place. As planned, Ranjan reached coffee shop, where not just the woman, but an entire police team led by SHO Begampur Ram Swaroop Meena was waiting. He was nabbed from the spot.
