The national Capital on Sunday recorded the lowest minimum temperature of this season as the mercury plummeted to 4.5°C. Though the weather remained clear, chilly winds kept blowing throughout the day. The minimum temperature on Saturday was 4.9°C.

The maximum temperature in the national Capital was 19.5 °C — one notch below normal, while the minimum was three notches below normal, said the Meteorological Department officials. Humidity in air fluctuated between 92 per cent and 46 per cent.

The MeT forecast says that the cold Northerly Winds blowing from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir will keep the minimum temperature low for the next few days.

The department predicted mainly clear skies with, however, partial clouds and light rain or thundershowers. On Monday, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 20°C and 5°C, respectively.

The spell of dense fog may engulf the city on Monday and remain till Tuesday. It only may continue till rainfall and chilly winds return back to the city on the last day of the year 2013.

“There are good chances that Delhi will receive fair rainfall between December 30 and January 1, 2014,” said RK Jenamani, Director in-charge, IGI MeT.
