Delhi Police is planning to set up specialised units in its 11 police districts for investigating economic offences. Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Friday said that in order to streamline the process of investigation concerning financial crimes, they are in the process of getting these cases investigated by a specialised unit under the supervision of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). District Investigation Units (DIUs) of district will be trained and tasked to probe cases pertaining to economic offences.
A specialised unit in each district of Delhi will investigate cases of fraud below Rs2 crore. So far, cases of fraud below of Rs2 crore were investigated by local police stations.
EOW is a specialised unit of Delhi Police for investigating cases of Rs2 crore or above. Delhi has 11 police districts. “It has been observed that people who are victims of fraud of smaller amounts do not get speedy investigation. Such units will fast track investigation,” said Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi.
He said the officials of the District Investigation Unit (DIU) will be involved in investigations of such frauds and EOW officials will supervise them. DIU officials so far help local police stations in investigations of other crime.
