Five Kashmiri people, including four women alleged that they, were beaten by a mob of 40 people for taking care of stray dogs in their neighbourhood in Southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area. A video of one of the Kashmiri women being thrashed went viral, following which the Delhi Police on Friday said that they have started investigation into the matter.

A senior police officer said that one of the woman claimed that she was beaten up by a mob of 30 to 40 people because she was a Kashmiri Muslim. However, some alleged that the mob beat her up because she was feeding stray dogs.

One of the woman said, "My sisters were abused and beaten up. I have a broken left hand and one of my guests who had come to visit us was also attacked."

She further added that, "It was a planned attack and the accused were carrying hockey sticks."

As per the written complaint given by one of the Kashmiris, they all were roughed up and the mob was shouting slogans, "Kashmiri terrorists should be sent back".

The complainant alleged that they had been attacked a couple of times earlier also and had been living in fear in the locality. However, the residents of the locality have accused the Kashmiri men of misbehaving with the residents, which led to an altercation.

On people carrying hockey sticks, a resident claimed that they had sticks with them because of dog menace in the locality.

National Conference working president Omar Abdullah, meanwhile, took to Twitter to appeal to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to ensure that the incident is probed urgently.
