Four Delhi Police personnel have been placed under suspension while one officer has been sent to police lines for the death of a 19-year-old youth inside the Karawal Nagar police station on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) AK Singla said, “The incident was reported on Tuesday around 10 am when one Deepak, resident of Shiv Vihar was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside the police station. He was arrested by the local police on Monday after he was charged with molestation and sexual assault of a minor girl.” Sub-Inspector Sandeep, Asssistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Satish, ASI Jashveer and ASI Ramdheer have been suspended, he added.

The officer said that the five police personnel have been given punishment because they did not send Deepak to the Khajuri Khas police station. “Since there is no lock up inside the Karawal Nagar police station, the accused should have been sent to the Khajuri Khas police station as per the norm. The Karawal Nagar police station functions on a rental premise.”

While the police suspect the death of Deepak to be a case of suicide, Deepak's family suspect foul play and claim that he was murdered.
