A group of four masked robbers barged into a private goods delivery company office in East Delhi’s Patparganj industrial area and robbed the company of Rs 28 lakh cash on Saturday evening.

R Sathiyasaisunduram, Additional DCP 1 (East) told The Pioneer, “The robbers held the employees on gunpoint, ransacked the entire office and decamped with Rs 28 lakh in cash. When the security guard tried to resist them from fleeing, one of the robbers attacked him with his pistol’s butt.”

Police have registered a case under Section 394 and 392 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Madhu Vihar police station against unknown persons.

They suspect the involvement of an ‘insider’ behind the crime, as the robbers knew where the cash was kept and first targeted the cash box only. Also, the entire crime was committed within two minutes.

“In the preliminary investigation, we assume that the robbery has been committed with the help of an insider. Before leaving the office premises, the accused took away the DVR so that their identity is not established. Moreover, they all were wearing helmets,” said a senior investigator.

A senior police officer said that the company has tie-up with several e-commerce companies and delivers online booked goods to the clients’ homes on behalf of the e-commerce companies. The day’s collection amount is counted in the evening and is deposited in the bank account the next morning, the officer said.

On Saturday evening, four masked men armed with firearms and batons entered the company office. When the guard tried to stop them on the reception area, he was assaulted by one of the men. They went inside and held all employees hostage on gunpoint.

“One of them reached the cash counter, took out the entire cash and put them in a bag. They left the premises within 2 minutes,” said the officer adding they have prepared a list of working and former employees of the company. SR

“The call records of their mobile numbers are being examined to verify their role in the crime. The video footage is also being analyzed for clues about the robbers,” said an investigator.
